Jeff Kinney is the creator of the Wimpy Kid series, as well as

Poptropica. In 1995, he moved to New England, and a few years later, wrote down ideas for Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Kinney grew up in the Washington D.C area, and attended the University of Maryland at College Park in the early 1990s. It was in college that Kinney created the popular comic strip Igdoof that ran in the campus newspaper, The Diamondback. While there, he knew that he wanted to be a cartoonist. However, Kinney was not successful in getting his comic strip syndicated after college.

Kinney currently lives in Plainville, Massachusetts with his two sons and his wife. Kinney attended Biship McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland.
